Charles University, Faculty of Science, Department of Chemistry Education. Supervisor: Doc. RNDr. Svatava Janoušková, Ph.D. Abstract The thesis focuses on the recent set up of the chemical curriculum of selected upper-secondary school programs. The curriculum is compared from the viewpoint of content and other parameters with selected analogous foreign curricula, further, focus group research was conducted, orienting on desired objectives, content, and form of science education at vocational schools. Based on this analysis, a draft of the curriculum for a chosen model study program was constructed as the outcome. Key words vocational schools, curriculum, chemistry education
Indicators of educational results in chemistry teaching of the Czech Republic
Tříska, Jan ; Čtrnáctová, Hana (advisor) ; Ganajová, Mária (referee) ; Klečková, Marta (referee)
This thesis focuses on the indicators of quality of education. The indicators are learning exercises the aim of which is to prove whether the tested pupils reached the level of knowledge defined by the national curriculum and listed in the Framework Education Programme. While learning Chemistry, the students should master the key competencies and educational objectives from the education area "Man and Nature" and further from the subject of Chemistry. The thesis focuses on the evidence of reaching the educational goals in Chemistry within the scope of General Chemistry. Since the level of knowledge defined by the Framework Education Programme is not very specific, the author of this thesis decided to settle the educational goals for the subject of General Chemistry based on the study of expert literature and curricular documents. Furthermore, the author also suggests a system of indicators which can be used to verify reaching these goals by the pupils of the secondary schools. The thesis also includes one of the models of working with such indicators. The indicator system was first assessed by a focus group (Chemistry teachers and experts in Didactics of Chemistry). This focus group evaluated the content and the construct validity of the suggested indicators. Afterwards, some of the learning...
Comparative Analysis of Chemistry Education ( Czech Republic - Scotland)
Laburdová, Jiřina ; Klímová, Helena (advisor) ; Teplý, Pavel (referee)
Key words: Scotland, Czech Republic, education system, Chemistry education, Chemistry teaching, National Qualifications, Standard Grade, Intermediate, Higher, Advanced Higher Abstract: The education system in the Czech Republic is currently undergoing many changes. Education systems of foreign countries are often what inspire us to make these changes. The aim of this thesis is to describe the education system in Scotland and the way chemistry is being taught at secondary schools in this country. Further it tries to compare these to the education system and chemistry teaching in the Czech Republic and consider whether we can adopt any aspects of Scottish education. Apart from analysis of study plans and educational documents, research for this thesis included visits to chemistry lessons at three secondary schools in Scotland and interviews with teachers at these schools. In the text, cultural and historical context of Scotland related to the education system is mentioned briefly. Then the Scottish education system is explained and Chemistry teaching at secondary schools is described from the point of study plans and requirements. The following chapter contains a description of schools that have been visited, together with reports from selected chemistry lessons. Last chapter then compares various aspects of...
Development of new educational materials for chemistry education in a form of webpage
Kraus, Jiří ; Šmejkal, Petr (advisor) ; Hájková, Zdeňka (referee)
This diploma thesis is focused on design and preparation of a new educational material focused on the theme of chemical bond. The material has been prepared with regard to content and with approaches based on results of analysis of secondary school textbooks and internet sources which deal with chemical bond and current curricular documents valid in the Czech Republic. First part of the thesis deals with specification and determination of necessary terms and arbitrary content of theme of chemical bond based on the content current curricular documents, especially FEP G (Framework educational program for secondary general education), Katalog požadavků ke zkouškám společné části maturitní zkoušky pro rok 2011 a 2012 (Catalog of requirements for the common part of mature examination for yers 2011 and 2012), four selected School educational programs (ŠVP - školní vzdělávací program) and on evaluation and term analysis and didactic content analysis at most common secondary school textbooks and selected internet sources focused on theme of chemical bond. The results of the evaluation and analysis also showed the incompleteness of the analyzed materials with regard to didactic content and/or specialized content. On the basis of results of the analysis and the evaluation, a new educational material in the...
Freshmen chemistry teachers' ability to perform chemistry calculations
Frolíková, Markéta ; Rusek, Martin (advisor) ; Chroustová, Kateřina (referee)
This thesis deals with the study of skill sets which the students acquired prior to attending the Faculty of Education at Charles University, specifically the Department of Chemistry and Chemistry Education, and how their knowledge of the subject improved after attending the Chemistry Calculations course, specifically in the 2020/2021 winter semester. In the first part of this thesis, where the theoretical standpoints are established, the thesis deals with the research of chemistry calculations wherein, for example, the students' issues regarding these calculations are outlined. Additionally, this part includes the includes the position of chemical calculations inside curriculum documents (RVP ZV, RVP G and RVP SOV) and how they are accepted and used directly in elementary and high schools. The second, practical, part studies the students' ability to solve chemical calculations after attending high school. The study was carried out by entrance exams. Not only was the success rate observed, but also the reasons of success or failure were examined. In the subsequent section of the study, a similar entrance exam was given out to students who have attended the Chemistry Calculations course, which delivered insight into whether the course improved the knowledge of the students on this subject. All...
Integrated Science Education and History of Science in Chemistry Education
Šíba, Michal
The present dissertation Integrated Science Education and History of Science in Chemistry Education is aimed at the problem of integrating scientific subjects by means of natural history. The thesis contains research concerned with integrating science education in its various forms and its analysis from the point of valid curricular documents. Results of a questionnaire on intersubject integration distributed among grammar school chemistry teachers are presented in the thesis. Further on, an approach to the integration by means of natural history is presented. Didactic materials were created on this topic: worksheets and didactic tests in Adobe Flash. Worksheets were attested in grammar school teaching and results of this attestation are included. The thesis also includes results of two projects aimed at the topic of natural history. These projects are: History of Natural Sciences in High School Teacher Education (Fund for the development of higher education in the Czech Republic, 2011) and a course called Alchymistic Prague (Developmental project of the Ministry of Education, 2011: Chemistry year - Chemistry for all).

Sadykov, Timur ; Čtrnáctová, Hana (advisor) ; Havlíček, David (referee) ; Svoboda, Lubomír (referee)
1 ABSTRACT The current chemistry education solves problems related primarily to the setting of the curriculum contents, which would be professionally correct, appropriately extensive, and at the same time connected with current aspects of life in modern society, and to problems of teaching strategies that would stimulate the students into an interest in science and commitment to it. The main goal of this dissertation is to create an educational website with an interactive chemistry course for lower secondary schools (ISCED 2) and verify its effectiveness in school practice. The first part of the dissertation describes methods of interactive chemistry teaching supporting the increase of the students' cognitive activity and the effectiveness of the learning process using ICT. The second part characterizes the chemistry course thus created and lists various ways to apply interactive teaching in it. Our interactive course contains a total of 14 thematic units, each with 2-6 subthemes. All themes are processed with respect to the practical application of the subject matter using the listed interactive education methods. This course was tested in 2018-2020 during chemistry lessons in Kazakhstan and Czech Republic, and the students' opinions toward interactive teaching in this study were tested using a simple...
